Hendrik van Cooten (1750-c. 1826), who was from Doorn, started working in Demerara as a sworn surveyor in 1773. This map from 1776 is a survey of twenty-six plantations around Boerasirie creek, conducted by him and Desbaratz. The index on the left lists the plantation names, those of their owners and various measurements in the index on the left. Below that index, a comment is written on the methodological assumptions of the survey. The map was copied into a smaller scale by C.C. Kanne.
