Plan for roads between the Commewijne and Suriname Rivers

Titel Leupe: Carte Ideale du grand Chemin à faire, pareil à celui d'Orange, pour communiquer en droite ligne de la riviere de Suriname et Comewine, pour y établir des postes et des villages afin de couvrir tous les plantages de Comewine et Cottica etc.

This is a project plan for a web of paths between villages and plantations in the area bordering the Commewijne, Cottica and Suriname Rivers. The web would make it possible to cross the forests and savannes between these rivers. Given the numbers of Marrons and deserters reputedly roaming this region, improving the roads was of key interest in protecting the plantations and villages mentioned on the map. A force of several officers was needed too and is noted on the map. It is unknown whether this plan was ever executed.
