Design for fort at the east bank of the Demerara estuary

This map forms part of Johan Christoph Heneman’s project plans for the Demerara defences of 1774-1775.
The maps under VEL1554-7 show two forts designed for the river mouth.
Whereas these two forts feature on his survey on his overview under VEL660, this battery or redoubt does not.
This is plan VIII for a battery on the eastern bank of the Demerara River.
A profile of the fortress has been drawn below on the map.
The Saint Leary Plantation lays to the north of the planned fortress and the La Bourgaele Plantation to its south.
It was virtually on the same spot that, in 1781, the British created their temporary Fort Saint George, a small earthen defence work reinforced with palisades and armed with thirteen twelve-pound guns.
Two varieties are kept in the Dutch National Archive: VEL1554B1 and B2.
