Peng-Hu

In 1604 VOC ships en route to China arrived at the Pescadores group of islands. However, the first attempts to trade with China from the largest island, Peng-Hu, came to nothing. It was not until 1622 that the VOC set foot on Peng-Hu once more, and at once began to build a fort. This occupation of Chinese territory resulted in a war with China which lasted two years. The VOC was forced to capitulate in 1624. The fort on Peng-Hu was destroyed, and a new fort was built on Taiwan.
