Van Spilbergen's arrival in Kandy

A bird's eye view map of the city of Kandy and surrounding fields. In the foreground and left trees and animals including elephant, deer and swine. In the centre a group of buildings surrounded by a wall and labelled: Het paleis van den Coninck. The text underneath reads: Tiwala Darma Sien Ada, ofte Don Jan Daustria van Colombo. A procession including an elephant, a sedan chair and a group of armed men bearing the Dutch tricolour and flags with crosses is depicted in the centre. In the foreground are several exotic-looking figures accompanied by the captions:Modehar ofte een capitein; Een borger met sij wijf; Dit's een slaef.Van Spilbergen is borne into the city of Candy on a palanquin accompanied by platoons of soldiers.

Key: 1-19, without explanatory notes; these are to be found in 'Begin ende Voortgang': 1. Hoe den Generael wordt gedragen in de Paleyncken, hier werden eenige Portugeesche vaendels op de schouders gedragen; 2. De Galeye daer Ioris van Spilberghen mede over de river gevoert werdt; 3. Hier ontvangt den Coninck de Generael.
