Ourien, Ambon

Indonesia

Around 1627 the VOC built a wooden fort with two bastions in Ourien, which was situated on the west coast of the island of Ambon between the native village of Lima and Asiloeloe. For many years there were plans to reinforce the guard post or to replace it with a stone building, yet in 1662 these plans had still not yet been realised. The VOC forced the local population to supply drinking water to the Vlissingen redoubt on the neighbouring island of Nusatello.
