Arrival of Sebald de Weert in Matecalo.
Vice admiral De Weert is received by the king of Matecalo [Baticaloa]. When the king hears that De Weert has released Portuguese prisoners in contravention of the contract he had with the king and De Weert then goes on to insult the monarch, he pays for it with his life.
This illustration was ranged by Montanus alongside the voyage of Van Warwijck and De Weert in 1602.
This plate is a mirror image of the illustration held in the Koninklijke Bibliotheek, inv.nr. 197 J 96 p. 306.
