View of fort Nassau on the Berbice River from the north and west

Title Leupe: Verschillende gezigten op het fort ...? zoo van de rivier als aan de landzyde.
This watercolour drawing shows the views of Fort Nassau from both the north and west. From this illustration it can be deduced that the outer side of the walls and the four half-bastions forming the corners of the renovated fort were all covered with wooden palisades, as, according to engravings in Hartsinck’s Beschryving, was the case for the earlier fortifications. The main gate on the north side of the drawing appears to have been executed or at least planned in stone. See also the ground plans on VEL1661A-B.
