Veer, Gerrit de
The boats are hoisted across Cross Island (right), after which the expedition can continue sailing (foreground). The scene with the birds in the background likely refers to the great number of shelduck eggs found on the island.
From the Wahrhafftige Relation, the German version of Gerrit de Veer’s journal, published in 1598. (See under ‘documentation’ for details.)
