Plan of French Salt Settlements on Saint-Martin

This French ground plan of two settlements of the French part of the Saint-Martin Island made through chromolithografy, which likely dates the map to sometime after 1837, the year this printing technique was patented in France. The map probably shows the situation of the settlements in the early nineteenth century using an elaborate index of salt production which stood central in their economy.
