Anoniem / Anonymous

This maps was produced in connection with the major slave uprising of 1763 that took place in Berbice and the recapture of the colony from the rebels in the following year, attained by the expeditionary corps sent out from the Republic and led by Colonel Jan Marius de Salve. This anonymous survey shows the situation in 1764 and gives an overview of the planned expeditions against the remaining rebels.

The plantations of the company are coloured yellow and those of private owners blue. The five military posts which will be used for the expedition are also depicted and mentioned in the index on the left side of the map.

The cartographer did not use a scale-bar on purpose because he aims to only give an overview of the situation. The letters used as references inside the map(a-g) are not explained.

Also see the printed map VEL1654, which was made on the basis of this manuscript.
