Plan for three redoubts at the Berbice River
Anoniem / Anonymous
Title Leupe: Plan van de redoutes welke in Rio de Berbice aangelegt zyn, tusschen de Kreek Wyky en Rio Berbice.
During the evacuation of Fort Nassau and the adjecent town of Nieuw-Amsterdam on 8th March 1763 due to the advance of Cuffy’s slave army, the Dutch set the fort alight to prevent its occupation. After the war was won, need arrived for new defences.
This plan suggests the construction of three redoubts (designated A-C) at the estuary of the Berbice River and the nearby Creeks. Each of these are equipped with a guard house (letter D).
An index at the lower right describes the location of these redoubts and a profile clarifies the design of the fortifications.
North is left.
Scale-bar of 36 Rhineland feet = 55 ‘strepen’.
