Map of the land of Sir Verweij and the widow of Chappou

Palm, Gustavus

Title Leupe: Kaart van eenige stukken land, gelegen aan beide oevers van de Perica.

This map shows the lots of mr. Jan Verweij and the widow of J. Chappou on both banks of the Perica and Cairoica creeks (indicated with the letters A-D) as well as a piece of land further south, belonging to mr. Verweij (indicated with the letters H-L).

Jan Verweij and the widow of J. Chappou requested the survey to reach an agreeable division of land between them, after which the Governor-General added the most southern piece of land of Verweij to the measurement.

The land divided between Jan Verweij and the widow of J. Chappou turns out to measure 2050 Surinamese acres (881,5 hectares), and is cut in half by the surveyor to create an equal border.

The land of the widow Van der Moolen lies to the east of the land, and the Waterweijt plantation to the west.

The map was signed by the land surveyor on 20 Februari 1713 and ratified on 11 April 1732 in Paramaribo.

Scale of 60 Chains = 63 ‘strepen’.
