Map of the Dankbaarheid plantation at Mot Creek
Heneman, Johan Christoph von
Title Leupe: Schetskaarten van eenige stukken land, gelegen aan de bovenlyn van de Plantagie de Dankbaarheid.
This map shows parts of the Dankbaarheid plantation around Mot Creek.
The survey is requested by W.H. van Ommeren, who wants to add three pieces of land (indicated with the letters A-K) to his plantation called Danckbaarheidt.
The lots desired by Van van Ommeren turn out to measure 426 Surinamese acres (183,18 hectare).
Based on the map of Böhm (VEL1954), a border is drawn between the hinterland available to existing plantations and land designated for newcomers (see VEL1961).
Despites that the land desired by Sir van Ommeren lays beyond the border of hinterlands, he still receives permission to obtain it, as is finalized on map VEL1961.
The map was signed on 12 May 1797.
The front side of the map (VEL1962A) lacks annotations and designations and only mentions the survey was conducted for J. Blaak.
Scale of 100 Chains of 66 Rhineland feet = 205 ‘strepen’.
